Libya: PM Abdul-Hamid Dbeibah accuses Tunisia, some European countries for stealing Libyan money

Libya’s Premier Abdul-Hamid Dbeibah has charged several countries including neighboring Tunisia, Belgium and Malta of stealing and seizing Libya’s money and assets, Libya Observer reports.

Dbeibah leveled the charges during the Public-Private Partnership Workshop held early this week in Tripoli.

For the Libyan Premier, the oil-rich country is unlikely to recoup its assets frozen in European countries. “We won’t regain that money, not even in our dreams. We hope the assets remain registered for Libya,” he complained.

“Libyan capital has gone around the world and has not found a place because there is no real environment for capital and the money out of Libya has been stolen by those who have stolen our investments,” he added.

Belgium and Malta have reportedly refused to release millions of dollars of Libyan assets under the pretext of UN sanctions. Libya under the rule of ousted and assassinated Muammar Gaddafi made millions of investments in dozens of countries around the world.

Dbeibah said liberating banks in Libya is essential so businesspeople can return their money to the country for investments, Libya Observer notes.
