Morocco, Denmark commend “strong & solid” relationship
Moroccan foreign minister Nasser Bourita and his Danish peer Jeppe Sebastian Kofod hailed on Wednesday in Rabat the “strong and solid” ties existing between the two countries.
During a joint press briefing held following their talks, Mr. Bourita praised the role played by Copenhagen in strengthening the relationship between Morocco and the European Union (EU).
The visit of Jeppe Sebastian Kofod comes in a context marked by a momentum in the relations between Morocco and Denmark at all levels, he underlined.
Talks covered the issue of migration and the Moroccan experience in the fight against terrorism and extremism in accordance with the vision of King Mohammed VI, added Mr. Bourita, focusing on the religious, economic and security aspects of Morocco’s anti-terrorism strategy, as well as regional and international coordination to fight this scourge.
For his part, Mr. Kofod said the goal of his visit to Rabat is to strengthen further cooperation ties with the North African Kingdom in various sectors including green energy where Morocco has a huge potential.
He also recalled his country’s stand on the Sahara issue, saying that Denmark and the European Union (EU) support a solution based on the UN process and negotiations.
Copenhagen has always defended a solution within the framework of the United Nations, stressed Denmark’s top diplomat.
Touching on the issue of the global war against terror, he described Morocco as “an important partner in the fight against extremism,” and cited in this regard Rabat’s participation in the ministerial meeting of the international coalition against Daech held this week in Rome.
He also congratulated Morocco for its co-chairmanship of the Global Counter-Terrorism Forum (GCTF).
“We also talked about migration and the importance of working together to address this issue which is important for Morocco,” said Mr. Kofod, expressing Denmark’s willingness to support the Kingdom in the fight against illegal migration.
At a separate meeting he held with Head of Government Saad Eddine El Otmani, the Danish official praised the efficiency of Morocco’s structural policies, which made of the country a model to follow in the region at the political, economic and social levels, as well as in the area of environmental preservation, the department of the Head of Government said in a statement.
He also noted Morocco’s strong involvement in the development of renewable energies and the promotion of sustainable development.
The two sides expressed their will to step up economic cooperation and increase trade between the two countries and discussed means to encourage investments, strengthen partnerships between economic stakeholders from the two countries and expand bilateral cooperation to new promising fields.
Talks also touched on tripartite cooperation for the benefit of African countries. In this context, El Otmani highlighted the pioneering Moroccan experience in this area and the efforts undertaken by the Kingdom within the framework of the African strategy, spearheaded by King Mohammed VI, in order to support economic and social development in the African continent, through investing in the most important economic sectors and programs to build competencies, transfer expertise, and enhance good governance.
El Otmani also surveyed the Kingdom’s efforts in matters of religious supervision and the spread of Islamic values of tolerance and coexistence.
The two sides also discussed the two countries’ approach in addressing the Covid-19 pandemic and mitigating its repercussions.
The Danish minister commended in this connection the Kingdom’s successful management of this pandemic.
