Morocco chairs board of directors of Arab Union of Electricity

Director of Morocco’s state owned utility company (ONEE), Abderrahim El Hafidi, acting chairman of the Arab Union of Electricity (AUE), chaired on Wednesday, a videoconference meeting of the board of directors of this Union which is gathering all Arab power companies.

During this 53rd meeting held remotely due to Covid-19, the director of the “Office National de l’Electricité et de l’Eau Potable” called for the modernization of the structures of the Arab electricity Union to keep pace with the rapid and deep changes taking place in the power industry at the international, regional and national levels.

Participants have entrusted a working group, led by ONEE, with conducting a study on the restructuring of the Arab union of electricity to enable it gain more efficiency and meet the expectations of Arab consumers.

They also agreed on an action plan to improve the performance of the Arab Union, approved amendments of its statute, regulations and the requirements for the position of the Union’s Secretary General.

The Arab Union of electricity was set up in 1987. It seeks to improve the production, transmission and distribution of electrical energy in the Arab World.

It aims to foster cooperation and coordination between Arab power companies to take up energy challenges facing Arab countries.
