Morocco to allow foreigners access upon hotel reservation
Moroccan tourism operators have received a boon after Moroccan authorities gave access to foreigners upon hotel reservation or invitation from a Moroccan enterprise.
Foreign visitors should, however, have been tested negative for the coronavirus, which has caused a crisis in Morocco’s vital tourism sector.
Morocco has allowed special flights for its nationals and foreign legal residents to and from countries which are also Morocco’s key tourism emitting markets.
Head of Morocco’s tourism association (CNT) welcomed the decision by Morocco’s Foreign Ministry, which urged opening borders to save the suffering tourism sector.
Tourist arrivals in Morocco took a hard hit contracting by 63% in the first six months of 2020. Nights spent at Moroccan hotels dropped 59%.
Tourism revenues were reduced by 33% in the first six months this year compared to last year.
