COVID-19: Morocco still on the upward curve of the pandemic with 450 confirmed cases Sunday

With the new tallies announced by the Ministry of Health Saturday evening and Sunday noon, the total number of infected patients surges to 450, including 26 fatalities.
Meanwhile, the number of people who recovered stands at 13.
However, Friday, March 27 saw the highest increase of novel coronavirus cases in Morocco in one day, with the number jumping from 285 to 345. Friday also recorded the highest number of reported COVID-19-related deaths, with 13 fatalities.
Since the detection of the first COVID-19 case in Morocco, on March 2, health authorities have conducted 2,115 tests on suspected cases, of which 1,665 tested negative.
The number of screening tests performed in the past three days has increased, while it hardly exceeded the threshold of 1000 tests in three weeks.
Moroccan medical authorities are aware that the number of screening tests carried out in Morocco remains very low. However, with the strengthening of the screening test system in the country, the situation will probably change.
Actually, the 2 billion dirhams (MMDH) granted to the Health Ministry by the Special fund for the management of the coronavirus pandemic for the strengthening of medical equipment will also be used to purchase 100,000 testing kits, and 100,000 collection kits. The acquisition of these devices will considerably strengthen the country’s capacity to carry out tests to limit the spread of the new coronavirus.
The amount will also be used to buy 1000 intensive care beds, 550 ventilators, imaging and scanning devices, pharmaceutical products and other equipment key to treating coronavirus cases.
Coronavirus cases worldwide jumped to 682,583 as of Sunday noon with a death toll of 32,144.
