Covid-19: Morocco Receives Medical Donation from China, HCQ drugs from India

Morocco has received lately 36 respirators and 98,000 facemasks donated by Chinese state-owned Development Bank (CDB). The donation comes after Bank of Africa (BOA) of Moroccan BMCE Group had sent four months ago medical supplies to China following the coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan, Hubei province.

After the Chinese hospitals, doctors and health workers were overwhelmed with soaring covid-19 cases and death toll, the Moroccan Bank rushed 150,000 surgical masks and 900,000 medical gloves to Hubei province as a token of solidarity with Chinese people during these difficult circumstances.

Chinese and Moroccan medical experts had also held video-conferences to share experiences on the best ways to contain the deadly virus, prevention guidelines, testing solutions, diagnosis and clinical treatment of Covid-19-patients.

In another development, India’s Embassy in Rabat said Saturday
That Morocco will receive shortly a shipment of hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) tablets from India in the coming days.

The embassy said the Indian government licensed the export to Morocco of a consignment of hydroxychloroquine and other medicines, such as paracetamol and that the export license has been issued to the Moroccan Ministry of Health.

The license contains a quantity of six million tablets of Hydroxychloroquine Sulfate manufactured by IPCA Laboratories Pvt. LTD. HCQ, along with other anti-malaria medicines such as chloroquine, is used in the treatment of COVID-19.

Morocco’s Ministry of Health made the sovereign decision, after careful consideration, in March to use the anti-malaria medicine chloroquine and its derivatives like hydroxychloroquine to treat the country’s COVID-19 patients.

The Indian Embassy in Rabat said the decision reflects the “excellent relations between India and Morocco,” adding that collaboration in the health sector has long been a key focus of bilateral relations.

In Morocco, covid-19 has so far infected 6,930 people, killed 192, while 3,732 others recovered. China has reported 82,954 positive cases, 4,634 deaths and 78,238 recoveries, while India confirmed 97,577 cases, 3,041 fatalities and 36,824 recoveries.
