Huawei will modernize KSA’s rail

huawei-logoSaudi Arabia has reaffirmed its dedication to improve its railway transportation system, in partnership with Huawei technologies. Huawei has most recently developed means of road transportation equipped with modern facilities to suit the passenger’s comfort and the train ground wireless networks.
Their operation is based on long-term evolution (LTE) technology. An amount of $45 million is needed for the establishment of railway networks across the Kingdom.  The projects are considered to have a positive impact on all the activities pertaining to transportation. The total length of these railway projects is expected to be 7,000 km. A mobile transmission network will also be in place to enable passengers including small retail businesses have access to mobile services in the stations. According to expectations, this will increase the passengers to 3,37 million by 2014.
Rabii Ouadi, head of the business development and transportation solutions at Huawei Enterprise, Middle East and North Africa, said that within the next 10 years, transportation would be standard and effectively improved. He added that it will contribute in boosting their economy. According to him, “the future of railway networks in the region will rely heavily on the capability of its 4G technology, as it forms the backbone of all rail communication systems.” He revealed that there are plans to make “the entire GCC rail network onto one single communication system infrastructure” in the near future.
Huawei has an overwhelming experience in the modern transport systems in various regions of the world. It has successfully deployed network communication solutions in several countries and was recently awarded the Etihad rail project to provide the core network infrastructure with GSM-R, Multi-Service Networks and a Master clock.
