Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara and his Mauritanian counterpart, Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation and coordination on security challenges in West Africa.
The two leaders met at the Presidential Palace in Abidjan on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, during President Ghazouani’s 24-hour friendship and working visit to Côte d’Ivoire.
Their discussions focused on the state of bilateral relations, prospects for economic and diplomatic cooperation, and major political and security challenges confronting the West African sub-region.
President Ouattara described the talks as excellent and said the two countries had reached a complete convergence of views on key regional issues. He said the shared outlook would enable Abidjan and Nouakchott to work more closely to address challenges facing the region.
President Ghazouani, for his part, highlighted the longstanding ties between the two countries, describing their relationship as being founded on fraternity, mutual trust and shared interests on major regional and international issues.
