Morocco, U.S.A. Discuss Counterterrorism Coordination to Strengthen Regional Security & Stability

Morocco and the United States held lately in Washington a high-level counterterrorism meeting to discuss ways of strengthening Moroccan-American strategic partnership in the fight against terrorism.

The two countries have reaffirmed their ongoing commitment to enhancing counterterrorism cooperation, said the U.S. embassy in Rabat in a statement posted on its Facebook page.

They agreed to build on ongoing initiatives to defeat terrorist groups including AQIM, ISIS and other Morocco and U.S.-designated foreign terrorist organizations, across the region and the globe.

The delegations addressed coordination on terrorism designations and countering terrorism financing, as well as ways stem terrorist violence in the Sahel. The two countries remain strongly committed to enduring partnership to disrupt terrorist threats and protect Moroccan and American interests and peoples.

The meeting comes few days after Morocco captured ten ISIS operatives, foiling thus a major jihadist plot targeting the country’s stability. The gathering also comes amid a growing U.S. bipartisan congressional push to designate the Polisario as Foreign Terrorist Organization.
