AfDB boosts Mauritania support portfolio from $147m to $659m

The African Development Bank (AfDB) has significantly increased its financial commitments to Mauritania, with its investment portfolio rising from $147 million to $659 million over the past three years.

The $512 million expansion reflects a more than fourfold increase in support and underscores a deepening partnership between the AfDB and Mauritania. The funding is directed towards key sectors including energy, agriculture, water, transport, economic governance, youth entrepreneurship, and private sector development.

According to AfDB data on July 5, the surge in financing aligns with the 2023–2028 Country Strategy Paper, which is designed to advance Mauritania’s development agenda through targeted and transformative investments.

The Bank remains one of the country’s principal development partners, supporting infrastructure expansion, improved access to essential services, and broader economic transformation.
