Royal Air Maroc has inaugurated its first direct flight linking Casablanca to Los Angeles, marking a significant expansion of its long-haul network and strengthening air connectivity between Africa and the US West Coast.
The flight would take 12 hours and is expected to improve access to a region that has historically been underserved by direct flights from Morocco and much of Africa.
Royal Air Maroc Chief Executive Hamid Addou described the launch as “a historic milestone” for both the airline and African aviation.
The new route coincides with a symbolic year in Morocco-United States relations, which includes celebrations marking 250 years of diplomatic ties, as well as Morocco’s participation in the World Cup co-hosted by the US.
The Casablanca–Los Angeles route will operate three times per week. Flights depart Casablanca on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays at 04:00, arriving in Los Angeles at 08:20 local time. Return flights leave Los Angeles at 10:20, landing in Casablanca the following day at 05:25.
Services on the route are operated using next-generation wide-body aircraft, offering enhanced passenger comfort, upgraded in-flight services and modern entertainment systems tailored for long-haul travel.
With the addition of Los Angeles, Royal Air Maroc further consolidates its presence in North America, where it already serves major cities including New York, Washington, Miami, Montreal and Toronto. The airline has also recently expanded its global network with new routes to destinations such as Beijing, São Paulo and Saint Petersburg.
However, the expansion comes as RAM continues to adjust its broader network in response to operational constraints. The airline has recently suspended or reduced services on certain routes in Europe and Africa, citing rising operational costs and the need to optimize fleet utilization while focusing on higher-yield long-haul markets.
