Libya, Italy Discuss Migration, Economic Cooperation

Speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives, Aguila Saleh, and an Italian parliamentary delegation held, in Al-Qubbah on April 30, talks that focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation and addressing shared challenges.

The Italian delegation was led by Lorenzo Guerini, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for Security, and included Gianluca Alberini. Discussions centered on Libya’s evolving political and economic landscape, alongside prospects for expanding joint investments in key development sectors.

A major focus of the meeting was irregular migration, identified as a pressing issue for both Libya and Italy. Both sides underscored the need to strengthen Libyan border management institutions through enhanced technical and logistical support to curb migration flows.

The two sides stressed the importance of adopting a comprehensive framework that integrates security, development and humanitarian responses, positioning such an approach as critical to advancing regional stability and deepening Libya–Italy cooperation across multiple fronts.
