Tanger-Med Police Foil Ecstasy Pills Smuggling Operation

Security forces at the Tanger-Med Port have thwarted an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of synthetic drugs into Morocco, in a joint operation between Morocco’s national police and customs services on Friday.

According to a security source, border inspection and search procedures led to the seizure of 140,000 ecstasy pills that had been carefully concealed inside compartments built in the metallic structure of a utility vehicle bearing a foreign license plate.

The driver, a 38-year-old Spanish national of Dominican origin, was arrested during the operation. He was taken into custody as part of a judicial investigation.

The ongoing inquiry, part of Moroccan security’s intensified efforts to crack down on international trafficking of narcotics and psychotropic substances, aims to identify all individuals involved in the trafficking network and to determine any potential national and international links to the operation.
