Morocco: Rights watchdog rejects AI interference with judicial proceedings

Moroccan rights watchdog has slammed the interference of Amnesty International with ongoing judiciary proceedings to influence a court case of man who died while he was in police custody in Benguerir on October 2022.

The Inter-Ministerial Delegation for Human Rights (DIDH) has rebuked, in a statement, AI for drawing hasty conclusions in a case still in trial in court and for failing to abide by the impartiality rules observed by international human rights organizations.

“Amnesty International continues to cast doubt over the transparency of the investigation carried out within the framework of judicial proceedings, said the statement, affirming that judicial police, under the supervision of the prosecutor’s office, have conducted an independent, meticulous, and extensive investigation.

The Inter-ministerial Delegation for Human Rights said the measures taken by the competent authorities respected the law and regulations governing such cases. The investigators interviewed all involved parties, collected scientific evidence, conducted forensic examination and necessary inquiries to establish the truth and define responsibilities.

The authorities have also taken action against the defendants by taking to court four law enforcement officers “suspected of having committed reprehensible acts”, said the Inter-ministerial Delegation for Human Rights.
