Moroccan Startup Raises Over $2 Mln to Expand Battery-Swapping For Electric scooters

Moroccan electric mobility startup GoSwap has secured $2.1 million seed funding, from Azur Innovation Fund, to expand its battery-swapping network for electric scooters across major Moroccan cities, according to local press.

The company offers users of electric scooters the possibility of exchanging depleted batteries for charged ones for $2.6 to $3 per 100 kilometres. GoSwap has deployed 20 connected swap stations across Casablanca, located at high-traffic points including fuel stations and retail outlets.

The funding will support expansion of the company’s network within Casablanca and into cities such as Marrakech, while improving compatibility across different electric vehicle models and strengthening fleet management tools.

GoSwap’s battery service aims to address infrastructure constraints in electric mobility, making electric scooters more practical for daily use and contributing to scalable EV in Morocco and North Africa.

This business model has been widely adopted in parts of Asia, where dense urban environments and high usage rates support the economics of swap networks.

As Morocco is focusing on decarbonization and seeking to cut gas emissions and modernize its transport systems, the expansion of battery-swapping networks could play a role in accelerating the country’s transition to innovative and eco-friendly e- mobility.
