Morocco commits to Gaza peace, humanitarian aid, Algeria indulges in empty slogans

Morocco has strengthened its position as a key regional contributor to Gaza’s stabilization, committing both security personnel and a military field hospital under the emerging International Stabilization Force (ISF), a practical, on-the-ground role that stands in stark contrast to Algeria’s empty slogans on the Palestinian issue.

At the Washington launch of President Donald Trump’s Board of Peace, Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita announced that Rabat will deploy police officers, train Gaza’s security personnel, and send high-ranking military officers to the ISF joint command, placing Morocco among the first five countries to formally commit to the multinational force.

Morocco will also operate a military field hospital in Gaza, a contribution confirmed by ISF leadership and international reporting.

The commitments deepen Morocco’s pattern of substantive engagement. Rabat’s earlier humanitarian efforts included airlifting large deliveries of essential goods to Gaza and Al Quds, which earned praise from Palestinian officials and international actors for their direct impact on civilian welfare.

Morocco leveraged its renewed ties with Israel to deliver the airlifted aid through a land route ensuring assistance reached those most in need.

Its latest undertakings shift Morocco from humanitarian supplier to active security stabilizer, embedding it in Gaza’s reconstruction architecture.

Meanwhile, Algeria continues to use the Palestinian cause for narrow domestic political calculations. Algeria’s president has often rhetorically claimed to back Palestinians, while blocking his own citizens from expressing solidarity. Protests in support of Palestine have long been banned, while tens of thousands marched freely in solidarity with the Palestinians in Moroccan streets.

Algeria has allowed only state-orchestrated events tightly engineered to avoid any development into domestic dissent in a country where queuing for basic necessities has become commonplace.

Algeria has also adopted a contradictory posture on Trump’s Gaza plan. While Algiers ultimately supported key Security Council elements of the plan, despite earlier presenting itself as a staunch defender of maximalist Palestinian positions, it instructed state-aligned media to attack the initiative, adopting radical language for domestic audiences while diplomatically accommodating what it publicly criticizes.
