Australia Supports Morocco’s Climate-Smart Agriculture Projects

Morocco’s National Institute for Agricultural Research (INRA) and the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) have agreed to strengthen cooperation in scientific research, innovation and climate adaptation in agriculture.

The agreement was sealed this week in Rabat. The signatories pledged to conduct joint research projects, boost capacity building &training, enhance the exchange of expertise and advance climate-smart agricultural solutions.

The deal is part of the Africa–Australia Partnership for Climate Responsive Agriculture launched in 2024. This six-year initiative, backed by 76 million Australian dollars, is designed to strengthen the climate resilience of African farming systems and support food security by fostering collaborative research and capacity development between African and Australian institutions.

The Africa–Australia Partnership aims to ensure farming communities across Africa are climate responsive, resulting in improved food security and economic growth.

Morocco is interested in Australia’s agricultural research and expertise in farming in arid conditions. Despite recurring droughts, Australia is a major player in global wheat and livestock markets.
