The National Oil Corporation (NOC) has signed the Oil and Gas Methane Partnership (OGMP), a United Nations-backed initiative aimed at reducing methane emissions in the energy sector.
In a statement, the NOC said on February 10 its Chairman, Masoud Suleiman, formalized the agreement, making the Corporation a member of the group operating under the supervision of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
The Corporation noted that the move underscores its commitment to internationally recognized environmental conventions and treaties. It added that membership in the partnership strengthens global efforts to curb emissions and reinforces cooperation agreements with international companies, organizations, the European Union and the World Bank.
According to the NOC, the agreement forms part of broader efforts to reduce methane emissions and gas flaring, while enhancing operational performance and advancing environmental protection through increased international collaboration.
