Under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, Morocco has clearly become “a major powerhouse of global football,” FIFA President Gianni Infantino said, adding that he would put the Atlas Lions “amongst the favorites” for the 2026 World Cup.
“Yes, Morocco can win the next World Cup,” he said in a video posted on his Instagram account.
I would put Morocco amongst the favorites of the World Cup along with the usual would-be winners, Infantino added.
The head of world football’s governing body recalled that “Morocco has just won the U-20 World Cup” and that it “qualified for the semifinals at the last World Cup” (Qatar 2022).
“That was very, very special for Morocco and for the fans to witness. It was very emotional,” Infantino commented.
“Morocco has now developed not just technical skills with the players on the field, but also the conviction that it is one of the powerhouses of global football, which it definitely has become,” he continued.
“The Federation (Editor’s note: the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, FRMF) is doing great work under the leadership, of course, of His Majesty the King of Morocco, who is a great football fan. Everyone in the country loves the game, and they have a good chance,” Infantino said.
