Mauritania, IFAD Reaffirm Partnership on Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security

On the margins of the Food Security Conference held in Dubai on February 4 and 5, Mauritania’s Minister of Economic Affairs and Development, Abdoullah Souleymane Cheikh Sidiya, met with the President of the International Fund for Agricultural Development, Alvaro Lario, to review and strengthen cooperation between Mauritania and the Fund.

Discussions centred on assessing the current partnership, with a particular focus on IFAD’s role in financing sustainable rural development initiatives and supporting the growth of Mauritania’s agricultural sector.

The Mauritanian official highlighted his country’s commitment to backing small-scale producers and improving their resilience to climate change, while commending the positive impact of IFAD- supported projects on rural livelihoods.

Alvaro Lario, in turn, praised Mauritania’s seriousness in implementing jointly financed programs and reaffirmed IFAD’s readiness to continue supporting the country’s drive towards food sovereignty. He noted that future support would prioritize agricultural innovation, rural infrastructure development and the integration of agricultural value chains from production to market access.
