MOROCCO & PAKISTAN TO STEP UP MILITARY COOPERATION

Pakistan Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif started Monday a three-day working visit to Morocco for talks focusing on bilateral military cooperation.

According to press reports, Rabat and Islamabad are working on a cooperation agreement in military manufacturing, exchange of expertise and training between the armed forces of the two countries.

Last April, Moroccan and Pakistani Special forces held in Cherat (Northwest Pakistan) their 3rd joint training in counter-terrorism operations to enhance professional skills and tactical capabilities of participating troops.

Morocco’s defense industry is gaining momentum with the delivery to the Moroccan Army of the first set of WhAP 8×8 armored vehicles produced locally by India’s Tata Advanced Systems.

Emboldened by the success of the combat armored vehicles (Made in Morocco), the North African Kingdom is now looking forward to producing tanks. In the drone industry, Morocco has attracted Turkish Baykar and Israeli BlueBird Aero Systems to produce locally military unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

These strategic projects help to create job opportunities and support the growth of Moroccan economy. Several defense companies from the U.S., Europe, Latin America and Asia have shown interests in the huge investment opportunities offered by Morocco which is developing its military industry clusters building on its success in the automotive and aeronautics sectors.
