Russia Opens Applications for Fishing Quotas in Moroccan Atlantic Waters

Russia’s Federal Agency for Fisheries and Ocean Science announced the beginning of applications for fishing quotas in Morocco’s Atlantic waters, under the bilateral fisheries agreement signed on October 17, 2025 between the two governments.

According to the official notice, Russian fishing companies can submit requests between January 12 and January 30, 2026 for quotas covering small pelagic species such as sardines, sardinella, mackerel, horse mackerel, and anchovy.

Successful applicants will sign contracts obligating them to respect Moroccan fishing regulations and ecological standards in the Atlantic zone where Morocco exercises sovereign rights and jurisdiction.

The October agreement, signed by Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and Russian Fisheries Agency head Ilya Shestakov, sets a four-year cooperation framework. It defines permitted catch volumes, fishing zones, and measures to protect marine ecosystems, combat illegal fishing, and strengthen scientific and technical collaboration through joint research programs.
