Casablanca airport hits 11 million passengers as CAN 2025 spurs record traffic

Mohammed V airport has reached an unprecedented milestone, welcoming more than 11 million passengers for the first time, the country’s airport authority ONDA said.

This record, achieved this week, reflects the exceptional influx linked to the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) 2025, which has driven a surge in international travel as supporters, official delegations, and visitors converge on Morocco, ONDA said in a statement.

Annual traffic climbed from 10.5 million in 2024 to 11.5 million in 2025, marking a 9.3% increase.

While the CAN accounts for peak flows, the growth also stems from expanded air connections between Casablanca and major global capitals, reinforcing the airport’s role as Morocco’s primary gateway, now handling 31% of national traffic.

This performance aligns with the Office National des Aéroports (ONDA) plan to modernize and expand capacity under its “Aéroports 2030” strategy. Mohammed V Airport aims to reach 12.5 million passengers by 2026 and over 20 million by 2030, supported by new terminals, upgraded infrastructure, and enhanced traveler experience.

To accommodate the surge, Royal Air Maroc (RAM) has reinforced its operations, transporting at least 500,000 supporters during the tournament.

The airline increased frequencies to African nations competing in the CAN, such as Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Tunisia, Mali, Nigeria, and Cameroon. It also boosted flights to European cities with large African diasporas.
