Tourism & Travel: Morocco remains among world most attractive & popular destinations

Morocco, which is globally recognized as one of the top travel destinations, is currently ranked in the top ten across a number of international tourism listings for 2025-2026, says international “Travel & Tour World” magazine.

The country’s tremendous heritage, rich culture and coastal tourism enable travellers to live and enjoy memorable tourist worldwide, adds the publication, noting that the annual travel and tourism global awards are a testament to Morocco’s outstanding and advanced achievements in the tourism sector thanks to its rapid development.

According to the Ministry of Tourism, Morocco currently holds 13th place in the UN Tourism’s global classification of destinations experiencing the strongest international growth. This ranking highlights Morocco’s rising popularity among international tourists, reflecting the country’s ongoing efforts to enhance its tourism offerings and infrastructure.

Furthermore, Morocco stands out as the leading destination in both Africa and the Middle East, showcasing its dominance in regional tourism development. In addition to its high rankings, Morocco was awarded the prestigious “Destination of the Year” honor at the 2025 Travel Awards in Brussels.

This accolade, which acknowledges destinations with outstanding appeal and tourism development, further solidifies Morocco’s standing as a top global travel hotspot. The recognition not only boosts Morocco’s tourism brand but also underscores the kingdom’s potential to attract a growing number of international travelers in the coming years.

Morocco’s tourism sector has emerged stronger than ever, posting remarkable post-pandemic growth that highlights its vital role in the national economy.

According to latest data, the sector’s gross domestic product (GDP) increased by an extraordinary 38.4 percent in 2024 compared to 2019, exceeding pre-pandemic performance and signaling a robust recovery.

Tourism contribution to Morocco’s overall GDP grew from 6.8 percent in 2019 to 7.3 percent in 2024. This growth is driven by a combination of rising domestic travel and a steady increase in international visitors, which together have fuelled stronger consumption, higher production, and significant value creation within the sector.
