Achraf Hakimi’s future sparks speculation amid Real Madrid links and race to recover for AFCON

As the countdown to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco begins, Achraf Hakimi’s name is making headlines, not only for his awards and nominations or his recovery from injury but also for renewed speculation about a possible return to Real Madrid.

Speaking to Sport Mediaset in Italy, Hakimi’s agent Alejandro Camano said “Achraf is fully focused on his rehabilitation and getting back on the pitch. He’s happy in Paris, where he’s under contract until 2029,”

“In football, anything is possible. Real Madrid will always be his home, the place where he grew up and where everything started,” he added

This statement comes nine months after Hakimi extended his deal with Paris Saint-Germain, reaffirming his central role in Luis Enrique’s project.

PSG sees the Moroccan international as a cornerstone of its tactical setup, thanks to his consistency and influence on the game.

Hakimi recently achieved one of the greatest honors of his career, being crowned African Player of the Year 2025 at the CAF Awards in Rabat, becoming the first defender to win the accolade since 1973 and the first Moroccan since Mustapha Hadji in 1998.

His stellar season included a Champions League triumph and multiple domestic titles with PSG.

Adding to his accolades, Hakimi has been shortlisted for the Globe Soccer Awards 2025 in the Best Player category, alongside global stars such as Kylian Mbappé and Mohamed Salah.

The PSG full-back suffered a severe ankle injury during a Champions League clash, following a challenge from Luis Díaz. Medical reports confirmed ligament damage, sidelining him for six to eight weeks. Hakimi appeared at the CAF Awards in a protective boot and using a walker, underscoring the seriousness of the setback.

Despite this, his entourage remains optimistic. Hakimi is undergoing intensive rehabilitation with the clear goal of being fit for the Africa Cup of Nations, which kicks off on December 21 in Morocco. Whether he will feature in the opening match against Comoros remains uncertain, but his determination to represent his country is unwavering.
