Morocco’s high-tech industrial value surpasses 50% milestone

Morocco has achieved a significant industrial breakthrough, with high and medium-high technology sectors now generating over half of the country’s total industrial added value, Minister of Industry and Commerce Ryad Mezzour announced Monday before the House of Representatives.

The North African nation reached this 50% threshold in 2024, surpassing targets outlined in the New Development Model eleven years ahead of the 2035 deadline. Mezzour made the announcement while responding to questions from the Istiqlalian Group regarding the country’s strategy for attracting high-technology industries.

The minister emphasized that Morocco’s appeal to both domestic and foreign investors stems from its integration of advanced technologies, supported by comprehensive investment charter guarantees. These modern technological applications in industrial ventures contribute substantially to generating additional economic value across multiple sectors.

Morocco’s commitment to fostering innovation has yielded tangible results in international rankings. The kingdom now holds 57th position globally in the Innovation Index while securing second place across the African continent, demonstrating the effectiveness of its technology-driven industrial policies.

Addressing infrastructure development, Mezzour revealed that Morocco currently maintains 14,500 hectares of developed industrial zones. The government has prioritized ensuring nationwide coverage, with plans to establish industrial facilities across all provinces.

Several provinces require either rehabilitation of existing industrial areas or creation of alternative zones, the minister noted. His department stands ready to support stakeholders seeking to develop new industrial spaces or upgrade current facilities, reinforcing Morocco’s commitment to sustainable industrial growth.

The achievement reflects broader efforts to modernize the nation’s economic structure and position Morocco as a competitive player in global technology-driven manufacturing markets.
