Libya concludes third phase of municipal council elections with strong voter turnout

Libya’s High National Elections Commission (HNEC) announced the successful closure of polling centers across 16 municipalities on last Saturday, marking the completion of the third phase of municipal council elections.

According to preliminary figures, 63,169 citizens cast their votes, representing an initial turnout of 68%—a sign of robust public participation in the local democratic process. The Commission confirmed this week-end that vote counting, categorization, and tabulation are now underway following an orderly and secure polling day.

The HNEC reported that its operations room closely monitored the elections from early morning, ensuring compliance with established procedures and maintaining transparency throughout the process. Technical and administrative teams provided continuous updates from local offices, contributing to the disciplined conduct of the polls. The commission reaffirmed its commitment to integrity, transparency, and credibility as the country continues its gradual efforts toward strengthening local governance and restoring public confidence in democratic institutions.
