Morocco pioneers regional shift to electric vehicle manufacturing

Morocco’s Vehicle Importers Association launches Auto Expo, the country’s first dedicated hybrid and electric vehicle exhibition, running September 18-28, 2025, at Casablanca’s AUDA Space. The event signals Morocco’s strategic positioning in global automotive electrification while pursuing membership in an exclusive group of five to six nations with complete electric vehicle manufacturing capabilities.

The eleven-day exhibition spans 3,500 square meters, expecting 50,000 visitors to explore seventy hybrid and electric models from thirty-one automotive brands. Several vehicles will make their regional debuts, emphasizing Morocco’s emergence as North Africa’s sustainable mobility leader. The expo’s theme, “Drive Green, Think Future,” reflects the automotive sector’s commitment to responsible, innovative transportation solutions.

Beyond vehicle displays, dedicated conferences address critical transition challenges including road safety, automotive financing, and sustainable mobility opportunities. Industry experts guide visitors through obstacles and benefits of electric and hybrid adoption, providing practical insights for consumers and businesses navigating transportation transformation.

Morocco’s electric vehicle ambitions extend beyond consumption to manufacturing leadership. The country’s procurement program for 7,000 electric buses, beginning with 1,300 vehicles already tendered, demonstrates public sector commitment. These initiatives gain urgency as Morocco prepares co-hosting the 2030 FIFA World Cup with Spain and Portugal, requiring revolutionary green transportation infrastructure.

The expo materializes Morocco’s vision to lead North Africa’s clean transportation transition. Combined with expanding manufacturing capabilities and public transport electrification, these efforts position Morocco at the forefront of regional sustainable mobility. Climate change impacts, particularly severe drought conditions affecting the kingdom, underscore the critical importance of accelerating eco-friendly transportation alternatives.
