UK reaffirms commitment to strengthening strategic partnership with Morocco

The British government reaffirmed on Thursday its commitment to deepening the strategic partnership it shares with Morocco, describing the Kingdom as “an increasingly vital trade and investment partner for the United Kingdom.”

“The United Kingdom is committed to further strengthening this partnership and considers Morocco an increasingly essential trade and investment partner,” said Michael Shanks, the British Under-Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero.

In a statement before the House of Commons, the lower chamber of the Westminster Parliament, Shanks stressed that the UK views Morocco as “a key strategic partner,” particularly in the areas of clean energy, decarbonization, and the fight against climate change.

He noted that the British government sees Morocco as an “attractive and innovative investment destination,” adding that British companies, with government support, are seeking to expand their presence in the Kingdom.

Shanks recalled that earlier this month, the two countries agreed to deepen their strategic partnership during British Foreign Secretary David Lammy’s visit to Morocco.

He added that the UK is “proud” to collaborate with Morocco under the “Breakthrough Agenda,” a program in which both countries co-lead the “Energy” track. London also intends to continue supporting Morocco’s ambitious renewable energy goals, notably through the COP Energy Transition Council, he added.

The UK looks forward to identifying and developing new avenues of cooperation with Morocco in these promising and rapidly evolving sectors, Shanks concluded.
