Moroccan FM in France to boost strong ties

Morocco’s Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita is on a working visit to Paris as the two countries celebrate stronger ties, since President Macron announced his country’s recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara territory.

Bourita’s visit, at the invitation of his peer Jean-Noël Barrot, is part of the momentum ushered in October last year, during Macron’s state visit to the Kingdom.

During Macron’s visit to Rabat- at the invitation of King Mohammed VI, the two countries signed a “strengthened and renewed partnership” that paves the way for closer cooperation at all strategic levels.

The two leaders had signed a declaration, one of the rare diplomatic documents signed by the Monarch, expressing strong commitment to work together to address shared challenges within the framework of the “Strengthened Exceptional Partnership,” which also provides for closer cooperation in vital fields such as food security, infrastructure, water management, security, defense, vaccines, energy transition, education and culture as well as cooperating in organizing global sports events.

The highlight of President Macron’s visit were the over 10 billion-euro economic agreements- 21 in total- signed at a ceremony under the chairmanship of King Mohammed VI and President Macron, evidencing the close ties between the two countries’ business elites and the enormous potential for economic cooperation.

France has also promised to defend Morocco’s autonomy plan for the Sahara in international organizations, signaling a new era of diplomatic cooperation between the two countries.
