NAM Parliaments renew commitment to states’ sovereignty, territorial integrity, peaceful coexistence

Members of the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement have reiterated their “unwavering commitment” to the principles and objectives of the non-aligned movement countries, mainly sovereignty, territorial integrity, peaceful coexistence and multilateral cooperation, as well as the principle of non-interference in other countries’ internal affairs.

This commitment was reiterated in the Tashkent Declaration adopted by NAM parliamentary network at its 4th conference, held on as part of the 150th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly convened in Tachkent, Uzbekistan, April 4-6.

In this declaration, members of the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement, including Morocco, gathered in their 4th conference, reiterated their “unwavering commitment” to the principles and objectives of the movement of non-aligned countries, mainly sovereignty, territorial integrity, peaceful coexistence and multilateral cooperation, as well as the principle of non-interference in other countries’ internal affairs.

In this declaration, members of NAM Parliamentary Network recalled the “visionary” efforts of the movement’s founders to encourage peaceful coexistence, cooperation and sustainable development among all countries.

They also highlighted the key role of law, justice and good governance in achieving human rights and fundamental freedoms, and recognized the role of the parliaments of the movement member states in ensuring respect for the movement’s founding principles, as well as realizing its ideals and objectives.

They also expressed concern at the persistence of complex global problems, including geopolitical tensions, armed conflict, growing economic inequality, climate change, energy and food crises, ongoing trade wars and the threat of pandemics, all of which represent major challenges for humanity.

The parliamentarians also reiterated the importance of achieving sustainable development goals, particularly in the fields of health, education, housing, food security, poverty eradication, environmental sustainability and bridging the digital divide.

Head of the Moroccan delegation, Speaker of the House of Councillors, Mohamed Ould Errachid, pointed out during the debate that Morocco defends “with firm determination” the principles of respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of States and the peaceful resolution of conflicts, and upholds the principles that inspired the creation of the Non-Aligned Movement.

Morocco adopts a comprehensive strategic vision based on the promotion of international peace and security, the consolidation of effective solidarity, fruitful cooperation, and integration, Ould Errachid emphasized, urging parliaments to play a more effective role in promoting dialogue and seeking innovative solutions to meet challenges and respond to the aspirations of peoples.

He recalled the launch by King Mohammed VI of “fruitful and open strategic partnerships” and “pioneering and ambitious initiatives” to strengthen cooperation and consolidate the values of solidarity, particularly in the Global South.

These are major strategic projects aimed at reinforcing regional security and stability and promoting sustainable development, particularly at the African and Atlantic levels, he said, noting that these projects establish a new vision of integration and multidimensional cooperation.
