Morocco, guest of honor at European Radiology Congress, a première for Arab world, Africa

Morocco, represented by the Moroccan Society of Radiology (SMR), was the first Arab and African guest of honor at the 2025 European Congress of Radiology (ECR), held in Vienna from Feb. 26 to March 2.

Morocco’s participation featured four conferences under the theme “Radiology in Morocco: From Science and Culture through Social Responsibility and Pedagogy.”

Topics included the Al Haouz earthquake, the use of simulation in radiology education, and Morocco’s cultural heritage.

SMR President Najat Cherif Idrissi El Ganouni, Siham Salam, Ghizlaine Lembarki, and Nadia Moussali delivered the presentations.

The conference also addressed social radiology through Dar Zhor, an association that promotes cancer awareness and supports medical imaging research and interventional radiology in southern Morocco.

The Moroccan pavilion, held by the SMR, showcased Morocco’s radiology advancements and cultural heritage. It attracted radiologists, students, and industry professionals, highlighting the country as a hub for collaboration, peace, and dialogue.

Participants honored Moroccan radiologists and recognized SMR’s contributions to scientific progress, particularly in Africa.

Beyond training radiology students and specialists, SMR promotes South-South cooperation, particularly in Africa, to advance the radiology sector.

The European Congress of Radiology is Europe’s largest radiology conference and the world’s second-largest after the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) in Chicago.

The annual conference attracts more than 10,000 participants and 8,000 industry professionals, including medical equipment suppliers and digital imaging providers.
