Tanger Med Port: Over 10 Mln containers processed in 2024, Mediterranean leadership consolidated
The Tanger Med port complex has processed 10,241,392 containers in 2024, representing a growth of 18.8% increase compared to 2023 throughput tally.
This performance reflects the trust of international shipping operators in the service provided by the Moroccan port which was reinforced with modern facilities and new equipment reducing the ships waiting and maneuvering times, says a press release issued by the Tanger Port Med Authority.
In 2024, the Port handled 516,842 trucks, a 8.1% increase compared to 2023. This traffic was primarily driven by industrial products, which grew by 6.8%, and agribusiness traffic, which increased by 7.2%.
A total of 3,047,387 passengers transited through Tanger Med Port Complex in 2024, marking a 13% increase compared to 2023. The Port’s two vehicle terminals handled a total of 600,872 vehicles in 2024, representing a 4% increase compared to the previous year.
This includes 368,843 vehicles exported by the Renault factories in Melloussa and SOMACA in Casablanca, 170,519 vehicles exported by the Stellantis plant in Kenitra, 34,100 vehicles in transshipment, and 27,410 vehicles imported.
Solid bulk traffic remained stable, with a slight growth of 1% compared to the previous year, totaling 584,945 tons handled. The Port Complex handled a total of 142 million tons of goods in 2024, marking a 16.2% increase compared to 2023.
