
Morocco: Anti-drug trafficking operations foiled in Tangier Port, Laayoune
Police officers at the Tangier-City Port successfully thwarted, late Sunday night, an attempted to trafficking of 64,080 psychotropic tablets, and arrested three individuals for their suspected connection to a criminal network involved in international drug and psychotropic trafficking, a security source said.
The suspects, a couple and their child, aged between 22 and 54, were arrested upon arrival aboard a maritime shuttle from a European port, the source added, noting that searches conducted aboard a commercial vehicle they were using led to the seizure of 64,080 psychotropic tablets, including 50,880 “Rivotril” and 13,200 “Trankimazine”.
On Saturday night, two individuals were arrested in Laâyoune for drugs possession and trafficking by the city’s Prefectural Judicial Police.
The two suspects, aged 21 and 33, were apprehended on board a cab during a security operation conducted in tFoum El Oued region (outskirts of Laâyoune). Searches led to the seizure of 1,886 “Rivotril” type psychotropic tablets and several doses of cocaine, while searches of the defendants’ houses in Laâyoune netted 2.5 kg of cannabis in blister packs, a local security source said.
All five suspects were placed under judicial investigation in their respective jurisdictions to uncover the ins and outs of these cases and identify any possible connections to this criminal activity.
