Morocco to buy 7000 buses ahead of World Cup
In a push towards green mobility, Morocco announced its plan to buy 7000 urban buses, half of which will be electric, ahead of the World Cup due in 2030, industry and trade minister Ryad Mezzour said.
A deal has been reached with the interior ministry to renew the bus fleet before the World Cup, he said.
A tender to buy 1317 electric buses has already been launched, Mezzour told an international conference.
Mezzour argued that the price difference between electric and thermal buses is narrowing and that installing charging points is very feasible across Moroccan cities.
Morocco, he said, has become a regional leader in electric vehicle battery manufacturing from the mine to the final product, recalling the recent investments in cathodes, anodes and electrolytes, the main ingredients for EV batteries.
