Tunisia: New head coach for national football team
The Tunisian Football Federation (FTF) has officially named on February 11 Sami Trabelsi as the new head coach of the national football team, the Carthage Eagles, replacing Faouzi Benzarti, whose contract was terminated last October.
Trabelsi, a former Tunisian international with over 80 caps, will begin his second tenure as head coach after previously managing the team from 2011 to 2013. He will be supported by a new coaching staff, including Hamadi Daou and Mohamed Sahli as assistant coaches.
In addition to the assistant coaches, the new technical team includes Wassim Moalla and Aymen Jedidi as physical trainers, while Hichem Jaziri will take on the role of goalkeeper coach. Helmi Kechaou and Walid Ben Tamansourt have been appointed as video analysts. The appointments were confirmed Tuesday following a session held by the FTF on 10 February 2025, with further discussions planned for the return of Mohamed Sahli.
Trabelsi’s first matches in charge will be in March 2025 when Tunisia faces Liberia and Malawi in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. His appointment is seen as a strategic move by the FTF to revitalize the team’s performance in the build-up to the upcoming qualifiers.
