35th Marrakech International Marathon set for jan.26
Marrakech is set to host the 35th International Marathon and Half Marathon (MIM 2025) on January 26, organizers announced. More than 15,000 athletes, including over 110 professional runners from around the globe, are expected to compete in the marathon.
Mohamed Knidiri, the director of MIM, said during a press conference that the 35th Marrakech International Marathon and Half Marathon will be marked by the participation of world-renowned elite runners, such as Kenyan athletes Kitwara Sammy Irop, Kilimo Rhonzas Lokitam, and Moroccan runner Mohamed Reda El Aaraby.
The Marathon will feature top women competitors including Ethiopian Beyene Tirfi Tsegaye and her compatriot Bekele Abebech Afework as well as Moroccan runners Kaoutar Farkoussi, Rkia El Moukim, Kaltoum Bouaasariya, and Hasna Zahi.
Knidiri noted that Marrakech offers a mild climate in January and a course conducive to high performance.
Since 2013, the marathon has ranked 11th globally as it received the World Athletics label in 2020, making it a qualifier for both the World Championships and the Olympic Games.
This year’s marathon will also feature additional activities, including a children’s race and a five-kilometer “Welcome Race” open to everyone on January 25 to help athletes familiarize with Marrakech’s environment and atmosphere.
Marrakech has designated January 26 a “Car-Free Day” under the theme “Environment and Road Safety Are Key Priorities.”
