Zambia’s Pdt. sends message to King Mohammed VI; Lusaka reaffirms support for Morocco’s sovereignty over Sahara
President of Zambia Hakainde Hichilema has sent a written message to King Mohammed VI.
The message was handed over to Moroccan foreign minister Nasser Bourita by Zambia’s peer Mulambo Haimbe during a meeting held Friday in Laayoune on the sidelines of the 1st session of Moroccan-Zambian cooperation commission.
Zambia’s top diplomat has reiterated on this occasion his country’s strong support for Morocco’s sovereignty over all its territory, including the Sahara.
He praised the growing international backing to the Autonomy plan offered by the North African Kingdom for the Sahara under its sovereignty, describing the plan as the “ONLY credible, serious and realistic solution”.
The Zambian official also hailed the UN-led exclusive efforts engaged for achieving a realistic, practical and lasting solution to the Sahara regional dispute.
The first Morocco-Zambia Joint Cooperation Commission was convened in Moroccan Saharan city of Laayoune under the co-chairmanship of the two countries foreign ministers.
It was crowned with the signing of seven cooperation agreements in tourism, renewable energies, vocational training, justice, investment and higher education.
The two countries pledged to continue to work together to build a win-win multidimensional partnership for shared progress and prosperity.
Zambia was one of the first southern African countries to open a consulate in Laayoune as early as 2020, a token of its support for the Moroccanness of the Sahara.
