Moroccan, Belgian police forces sign joint work plan for 2025-2026

Director General of Morocco’s National Security and Territorial Surveillance (DGSN-DGST), Abdellatif Hammouchi, who paid on Thursday a working visit to Belgium, and the Commissioner General of the Belgian Federal Police, Eric Snoek, signed a joint action plan for the interim period 2025 and 2026 to strengthen cooperation in the field of combating organized crime and terrorism.

Reflecting the shared commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation in the security field, the joint action plan and action program for 2025-2026 is meant, besides consolidating cooperation in combating organized crime and terrorism, to coordinate efforts to process border transit data, pursue internationally wanted individuals, as well as cooperate in the fight against money laundering and terrorist threats targeting sporting events, the DGSN-DSGT Hub said in a press release.

According to the press release, this action plan establishes the mechanisms for bilateral cooperation between the Moroccan security services and their Belgian counterparts, as well as the agreed-upon channels to facilitate the exchange of information and joint visits, for greater effectiveness and efficiency of the joint security action.

The visit by Hammouchi, who is heading a large security delegation made up of directors and executives from the central departments of the DGSN-DGST Hub, is part of bilateral meetings between the Director General of DGSN-DGST and his counterparts in the Federal Police and internal security in Belgium. It is meant to bolster joint cooperation mechanisms across all areas of security and intelligence, the press release said.

Talks and working sessions between Hammouchi and Eric Snoek covered a range of security issues of common interest and provided an opportunity to examine various threats and emerging security risks, as well as ways to combat these challenges within the framework of a shared and collective vision.

Talks also focused on examining the security challenges and threats posed by terrorist groups and organized crime networks across various regions, notably the Sahel and the Sahara, the Middle East, and Europe.

This visit underscores the robust bilateral cooperation between Morocco and Belgium in various security domains, notably the fight against terrorism and transnational organized crime, the press release notes, adding that it also takes place within a context of strengthening and expanding security partnerships between Moroccan security services and their Belgian counterparts.

Hammouchi’s current visit comeson the heels of the recent trip to Morocco on November 25 by Francisca Bostyn, Administrator General of Belgian State Security.

This exchange of visits confirms, anew, Morocco’s distinguished status and effective role in international security cooperation, and also reflects the credibility Moroccan security services enjoy among their European partners, as a key player in joint efforts to preserve international peace and security, the press release concludes.
