At G20, African Union calls for creation of International Fund to protect, preserve African Heritage
Mauritania, as current chairman of the African union, has called for the creation of an international Fund for the protection and preservation of African heritage under the supervision of UNESCO, which is the center of expertise in this area.
The call was launched by Mauritanian Minister of Culture & Arts, Hussein Ould Medou, during his participation, as representative of the presidency of the African Union, in the meeting of G20 Culture ministers, held in Salvador, Brazil.
Mr. Ould Medou stressed the crucial importance that the President of the African Union gives to the values of global and climate justice by defending the issues of the African continent and striving to strengthen its representation at the global level, whether within the G20 or UN bodies, in addition to what he called “bringing the continent’s climate concerns to various global forums and calling for the protection of African heritage in light of climate and security challenges, such as in the BRICS, UN and Paris conferences.”
The Minister welcomed the obtaining of a permanent representation of the African Union within the G20, considering that today’s world is an unfair world for the groups that integrate it, and unfair for the land that carries it, reason why the rotating president of the African Union called for carrying the concerns of the African continent and working for a greater representation worthy of its status and greater attention to its heritage in recognition of its authenticity and awareness of the challenges facing African heritage, whose protection can only safeguard the heritage of humanity as a whole.
