Morocco seeks 60,000 tons of rail for Marrakech TGV
Morocco has launched a tender for 60,000 tons of rail to extend Africa’s fastest train to Marrakech.
Morocco has inaugurated the high-speed train, known as TGV or Bourak in Arabic, in 2018 linking Casablanca to Tangier.
The new railway would cost 612 million dirhams ($62 million), Moroccan state-owned rail operator ONCF said.
Morocco’s extension of the high-speed train network to Marrakech would be achieved at an estimated cost of about 4.2 billion dollars and would cut the travel journey from Tangiers to Marrakech to 3 hours only.
If all goes well, the high-speed train will be ready before 2030, when Morocco will host the world cup together with Spain and Portugal.
