Kuwait closes its embassy to Gabon

Kuwait has decided to close its embassy to Gabon, as part of its global diplomatic downscale, Gabonese media reported.

The decision was announced by Kuwaiti chargé d’affaires to Libreville during a farewell visit to Gabon’s foreign minister Michel Régis Onanga M. Ndiaye, Gabon Review reported on July 23.

The media reported that, despite the closure, relations between the two countries are good.

Kuwait recently made a strategic decision to close five of its embassies abroad. The affected nations include the Federal Republic of Myanmar, the Kingdom of Cambodia, the Lao Democratic Republic, Gabon, and Zimbabwe. Additionally, Kuwait’s consulate in Ho Chi Minh City, located in Vietnam, was also closed.

The Kuwaiti government cited strategic considerations and diplomatic priorities as the rationale behind the closures, in line with evolving geopolitical dynamics and national interests.
