Morocco, third most targeted with fake news in Mena region- study

Morocco is the third most targeted country with fake news, mostly spread by Algerian media, behind war-torn Palestine and Yemen, fact-checking platform Misbar reported.

Al Misbar cited fake news published by media close to the Algerian regime claiming Morocco sent troops to back Israel in its war on Gaza, among other lies.

Since Algeria unilaterally cut ties with Morocco, the Algerian regime has engaged in a disinformation campaign with the aim of tainting the image of the Kingdom.

According to Misbar, the scale of Algeria-fabricated news went as far as using Aljazeera logo to claim Morocco sent 4000 soldiers to back the Israeli army.

The scale of fake news campaigns targeting Morocco soared in June, notably using social media platforms, Misbar said.
