Morocco reiterates no UN roundtables without Algeria’s participation
Morocco has reiterated to the UN envoy to the Sahra Staffan De Mistura that the resumption of round tables is only possible if Algeria takes part, the foreign ministry said.
Moroccan foreign minister Nasser Bourita held talks with Staffan De Mistura on April 4 in Rabat marked by “frankness and a positive and constructive spirit,” the ministry said in a statement.
De Mistura’s visit aims at relaunching the round tables process with the participation of Morocco, Algeria, Mauritania and the “Polisario,” with a view to reaching a political, realistic, feasible, and lasting solution based on compromise.
On this occasion, Morocco’s foreign ministry recalled that there would be no political process other than the roundtables with the participation of Algeria.
And that no solution is fathomable apart from the Moroccan autonomy initiative.
Morocco’s foreign ministry also made it clear that no serious process could be launched at a time when the ceasefire is violated on a daily basis by the Polisario militias.
