Morocco’s legal cannabis harvest at 294 tons in 2023
Morocco reported a legal harvest of 294 tons of cannabis, the first since the country allowed the cultivation of the plant for medical and industrial purposes, the national agency for the regulations of activities linked to cannabis ANRAC said.
The news was first reported by le360 citing ANRAC which said it offered permits to farmers to start cultivating the local strain known as Beldia.
Morocco legalized the cultivation of cannabis for medicine and industry use in 2021 and ANRAC was created in 2022.
Reuters reported that the first legal harvest was reaped by 430 farmers in 30 cooperatives, adding that this year, ANRAC was examining permits for 1500 farmers in 130 cooperatives.
Two transformation units have already started production, while two others are waiting for equipment, the agency said, noting that 15 cannabis products are being authorized.
