Morocco’s tourist arrivals up 24% in February

Morocco’s tourist arrivals grew 24% to 2.7 million tourists up to the end of February this year, underscoring the momentum in the sector.

“A half-million additional visitors in just two months is a figure that speaks for itself. This confirms that Morocco has its place among the world’s top destinations,” tourism minister Fatim-Zahra Ammor said.

“Each visitor directly contributes to the economic growth of our regions, the creation of jobs, and the integration of young people. It is a winning dynamic for the entire ecosystem and proof that Morocco’s tourism strategy under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI continues to bear fruit,” she said.

Last year, Morocco’s tourism revenue grew 7% to a record 11.2 billion dollars thanks to increased arrivals.

With 17.4 million tourists visiting in 2024, arrivals were two years ahead of schedule or 20% higher compared with 2023, showing the country has turned the Covid-19 page thanks to major investments in its hospitality sector.

Morocco plans to spend 600 million dollars from 2023 to 2026 to promote the tourism sector, including a revamp of existing hotels and promoting new investments in the sector.

The goal is to join the list of the world’s top 15 tourism markets, according to the ministry of tourism.

With a record performance in 2024, Morocco outperformed Egypt as the most visited African country.

Morocco expects to receive 26 million tourists by 2030, the year it will co-host the World Cup.
