Princess Lalla Asmae, First Lady of Côte d’Ivoire inaugurate audiology centre & launch newborn hearing screening program in Rabat

Princess Lalla Asmae, youngest sister of King Mohammed VI, and the First Lady of Côte d’Ivoire, Dominique Ouattara, inaugurated, on Wednesday in Rabat, Lalla Asmae Foundation’s Hearing Diagnosis & Rehabilitation Centre and launched a newborn hearing screening program in the Rabat-Salé-Kenitra region at Moulay Youssef Hospital Centre.

After cutting the inaugural ribbon, the Princess and the 1st Lady of Côte d’Ivoire toured the centre’s various departments including the reception room, the mother & child ward, the paediatric consultation room, the ENT consultation room, the speech therapy room, the psychomotricity-psychology room, the infirmary and the audiometry room.

Afterwards, Princess Lalla Asmae and Mrs. Dominique Ouattara followed a presentation on the concept of “White Ear”, designed to make the hearing impaired more visible, before placing pins on two deaf girls.

The same day, the princess and the 1st Lady of Côte d’Ivoire launched a newborn hearing screening program in the Rabat-Salé-Kenitra region at the maternity ward at Moulay Youssef Hospital Centre.

The screening program aims to diagnose and treat hearing problems in newborns. Treatment options include cochlear implants and speech therapy. The program also enables Moroccan and African ENT consultants to share experience and strengthen cooperation.

Princess Lalla Asmae afterwards chaired a luncheon offered by King Mohammed VI in honor of Mrs Dominique Ouattara, who is on a working visit to the Kingdom.

On this occasion, Princess Lalla Asmae and Mrs. Ouattara visited some children who underwent ear surgeries. They also attended a speech therapy session and a dissection course for African ENT physicians.

The ceremony was crowned with the signing of three agreements between Lalla Asmae Foundation and key partners: Royal Air Maroc, Bank of Africa and Mohammed VI Foundation for Science & Health. These agreements provide logistical, financial, and scientific support for the program.
