Ambassador Amrani presents his Letters of Appointment as Morocco’s Permanent Observer to the Organization of American States

Morocco’s newly appointed ambassador to the United States, Youssef Amrani, on Tuesday presented his letters of appointment to the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Luis Almagro, as the Kingdom’s Permanent Observer to the OAS.

During the letters presentation ceremony held at the headquarters of the regional institution in Washington, Amrani underlined the importance attached by Morocco to the OAS, the first regional forum for political discussion, policy analysis and decision-making in Western Hemisphere affairs.

He also welcomed the relations of friendship and cooperation between the Kingdom and the member states of this Pan-American organization, based on mutual respect and shared prosperity.

The diplomat and the OAS Secretary General Almagro seized this opportunity to review means to further develop relations between Morocco and the Pan-American organization, as well as possible areas for the expansion of cooperation.

Mr. Amrani stressed Morocco’s commitment to strengthening political dialogue with this regional institution and to promoting a more fruitful and in-depth exchange in areas of common interest.

“We greatly appreciate the Kingdom of Morocco’s role as a Permanent Observer and its interest in strengthening dialogue and cooperation with the OAS and Latin America and the Caribbean,” Almagro told MAP.

“The OAS values the importance of building stronger ties between the Americas and African countries to address common global challenges, and thanks Morocco for its leadership,” he added.

The OAS brings together all 35 independent states of the Americas and constitutes the main political, juridical, and social governmental forum in the Hemisphere.

Morocco is a permanent observer at the OAS since November 1981.

The organization uses a four-pronged approach to effectively implement its essential purposes, based on its main pillars: democracy, human rights, security, and development.
