Planning meeting for 2024 African Lion drills takes place in Agadir

The General Staff of Morocco’s Southern Zone is currently hosting the main planning meeting for the 20th African Lion drills. The event, taking place in Agadir from January 29 to February 2, is jointly organized by Morocco’s Royal Armed Forces (FAR) and the United States Armed Forces.

The announcement was made on Monday by the General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) in a statement.

The meeting will bring together representatives from the FAR and the US Armed Forces, in addition to ten partner countries who will hold discussions on the strategic planning.

The meeting would allow planners to finalize the details of the various activities of African Lion 2024.

The statement explained that the exercise, renowned as the most significant multinational event on the African continent, aims to enhance operational, technical, and procedural interoperability between the armed forces of participating nations.

The planning meeting will define the intricacies of the various activities scheduled for the 2024 African Lion. According to the statement, these activities include comprehensive training in operational domains, a strategic planning exercise for staff officers, joint interarm and inter-army joint maneuvers, civil-military actions, and exercises focusing on nuclear, radiological, biological, and chemical (NBC) decontamination.

The exercise is slated to take place May 20-31, across several regions, including Agadir, Tantan, Mehbes, Tata, Kenitra, Benguerir, and Tifnit.

Beyond fostering cooperation and interoperability, African Lion 2024 is designed to provide valuable training in the planning and execution of complex military operations.

This year’s edition is particularly significant as it marks the 20th anniversary of the African Lion exercise. The event, a testament to the enduring relationship between the Royal Armed Forces and their American counterparts, has been instrumental in promoting peace and security in the region.

The FAR statement emphasized that the anniversary celebration underscores the strength and longevity of the bonds between the participating armed forces, and highlights the commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the region.
