Tanger Med breaks new records in 2023, widens gap with Mediterranean peers

Tanger Med port widened the gap with its Mediterranean competitors breaking a new record with 8.6 million containers handled in 2023, up 13.4%.

The number of vessels transiting through the port grew 17% to 16,900 last year, while the number of trucks that crossed through the port rose 4.15 to 44,7993.

In terms of tons, the port maintained its position as the Mediterranean’s largest with 122 million tons last year, up 13.6%.

At least 2.7 million passengers used the port last year, mostly Moroccans living in Europe.

The port has also bolstered the competitiveness of Moroccan industry offering an export platform notably for the automotive sector. The number of new cars transiting through the port grew 21% to 578,446.
